Step off the boat onto lava. The Galápagos Islands belong to Ecuador and sit on the equator, about 1,000 kilometers out in the Pacific. Animals here evolved in isolation and show little fear of people. We will read the volcanic rock and meet the tortoises, finches, and marine iguanas.
