Five minutes

Daily Majlis

A sitting place. Speak, explain a proverb back, and keep a stamp. Ages 16+. Lines are drafts until a native speaker reviews them.

About five minutes. Warm up, speak, explain it back, then one Hikma. A missed day is a grace day. Stamps mark where you sat. Nothing breaks.

    Day 1 of 30

    One Hand

Week 1: Arriving in the Circle

    1. Warm-up. Say your name, where you are right now, and one language you hear around you.
    2. Speak. Tell the story of a time someone helped you do something you couldn't do alone: moving house, an exam, a hard week. What did they do? How did you thank them?
    3. Explain it back. Explain today's Hikma to a friend who's never heard it.

    Hikma · Arabic, Egyptian

    إيد لوحدها ما تسقفش

    Iid lewaḥdaha ma tsa'afsh

"One hand on its own can't clap."

Big things need more than one person. Asking for help is not weakness.

Say it back. I can't do this alone, and that's okay.

AR (Egyptian). "Mish ha'dar lewaḥdi, w da 'aadi." (مش هقدر لوحدي، ودا عادي)
